There is no fixed and limited number of memories; memory management is dynamic and so only the amount that is strictly needed is used in each case. This makes it possible to optimise the available capacity, i.e. there is space for a large number of short measurements, but the whole memory can also be used to store a large amount of data from a single measurement.
